Amazon has plans to reduce the costs of healthcare. An ambitious goal for an e-commerce company, but one that is already being met in many ways. How? With the introduction of Amazon primary care clinics, that’s how!
Amazon Primary Care Clinics: What We Know
According to two people close to the company, Amazon is discussing whether it should open primary care clinics at its head office, which is in Seattle, Washington.
Note that this would be for employees only. Moreover, the sources of this story, reporting to CNBC, asked to remain anonymous. Why? Because the plans are still in the early stages of discussion.
However, we do know bits and pieces.
As of right now, according to the two people close to the matter, the plan is to employ a team of doctors (it is unclear if the doctors will be local or international) who would launch a pilot clinic in 2018. The clinic would first be for a handful of Amazon employees, then the Amazon primary care clinics would expand to more workers next year.
Not the First Move
Opening up Amazon primary care clinics for its employees is a smart move in a big game. Jeff Bezos’ company is not the only one pushing for lower health costs, but it is one that’s made a few moves already.
At the start of 2018, Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, and J.P Morgan Chase partnered to improve health care costs.
The Amazon Stock (NASDAQ:AMZN)
The market seems to be pleased with the news. At press time, the AMZN stock is up 1.02% on the Nasdaq Exchange.
The Takeaway
What do you think about the potential Amazon primary care clinics? I think it’s great. Who knows, with the reputation Amazon has, if these are a success, we could all be visiting Amazon health clinics when we’re sick!
