A new Apple iPad is now released. The company has been reaching out to high schools and colleges, trying to advance methods of education and today, the technology behemoth hosted a launch event at the Lane Tech College Prep High School in Chicago. Not only did CEO Tim Cook discuss at length the plans Apple (NASDAQ:APPL) has to continue investing in community colleges, but he also revealed the new Apple iPad – a new model designed to be popular amongst students.

New Apple iPad – What Do We Know?

The Cupertino, California-based company released the new iPad model today. It is both economical and supports some of the company’s well-known features. For instance, the iPad supports Apple Pencil, and there will be Pencil support, which is one of Apple’s high-end specs. Further, the new iPad model will be compatible with every single version of Apple’s applications, like the spreadsheet and word processing. It doesn’t end there, however. Apple revealed at the Chicago launch event that it is taking the iPad back to its original roots.

When Steve Jobs first brought forward the idea of creating the iPad, he intended for the devices to be used in institutes of education, so that students would also have access to things like digital textbooks. That’s one of the intended goals of the new affordable iPad model. There were be a number of new digital book creation features included on the new iPad.

There were rumors circulating long before today, claiming that Apple had plans to release a cheaper iPad, and for a while, those were just rumors. Now,  it appears the California-based tech company is a man of its word. The 9.7-inch iPad will commence shipping this week. It will also be arriving at Apple stores this week. While consumers can purchase the new iPad for over $300 ($329, to be exact), schools will be offered to buy the new iPad for a price of $299. It is now available for order.

Sounds pretty cool, right? If you’re not completely psyched about the new iPad, here are some other distinct features that will be included:

– an HD Facetime camera

– The company’s A10 Fusion chip

– Touch ID

– 10+ hours of battery life

– LTE option

– An 8-megapixel rear camera

Apple is currently trading at $174.22 on the Nasdaq Exchange. This puts the AAPL stock up $1.45 or 0.84%. The company has a market cap of 884.60 billion.
