U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Trump Travel Ban – A Historic Mistake

Trump Travel Ban

Donald Trump is setting a bad example. Whenever he does something unjust, he seems to be rewarded for it. The latest instance of this occurred on Tuesday, June 26, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump travel ban.

U.S. Supreme Court Upholds Trump Travel Ban: What We Know

Today, it was announced that the U.S. Supreme Court had decided to uphold the Trump Muslim travel ban, which targets numerous Muslim-based countries.

To no surprise, the masses are outraged. Eugene Gu (a surgeon-scientist who sued Trump and won) said that the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in favor of the Trump travel ban “is a direct consequence of Congressional Republicans unethically and illegally refusing to hold a confirmation hearing on Judge Merrick Garland.”

As mentioned, this is a big win for Trump—even though it is a historic mistake. In September, lower courts had blocked the Trump travel ban, but now, because of the 5-4 ruling, Trump can now claim vindication.

The Trump Administration Reacts

Everyone involved in the Trump Administration expressed their gratitude, and even a little surprise, at the news today. The White House was the one who seemed to be expressing gratitude, posting a statement that said that this was a “tremendous victory for the American people and the Constitution.

Meanwhile, there seemed to be a little bit of underlying surprise in Trump’s words. It was almost as if he didn’t actually think the Supreme Court would rule in favor of the Muslim travel ban. On Twitter, the president quickly tweeted the following:

“SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS TRUMP TRAVEL BAN. Wow!”

The Public Reacts

In the midst of the Trump zero tolerance policy, and all the other horrific things happening in America—like the shooting of Antwon Rose—this ruling is absolutely heartbreaking.

But the people will not go gently into that good night. Citizens around the globe are not letting their thoughts on this ruling go unheard. In fact, a lawyer for the American Civil Liberties Union Omar Jadwat called the ruling “one of the Supreme Court’s great failures.

Moreover, Farhana Khera, the executive director of a Muslim advocacy group, said that we have not seen “a decision that so clearly fails to protect those most vulnerable to government-led discrimination” since events like slavery.
