On Friday, Bombardier (OTC:$BOMBF) stated that the company is hiring around 1,000 workers in the Montreal area to work on its Global 7000 business aircraft program.

Specifically, such hires will be completed over the next 18 months on a rolling basis for interior completion work on the aircraft.

While the final assembly of the Global 7000 will happen in Toronto, Bombardier CEO Alain Bellemare stated that the interior completion work will be completed in Montreal.

The Global 7000 is designed to carry up to 19 people with a maximum range of 13,700 kilometers, set to enter into service in the second half of 2018. The new model will be set in the price range of $70 million to $72 million US, and orders have already been booked up through 2021.

During a press conference, Bombardier indicated “a little challenge” to recruit people, but feels reassured in being capable of recruiting necessary workers. The company will seek to leverage their strategic selection of its facility in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, where it has invested about $83 million.

President of Bombardier’s business aircraft division, David Coleal, revealed that there will be a “full-court press” in the hiring process.

As another part of Friday’s announcement, Bombardier revealed that production of the Global 5000 aircraft will be moved to Wichita, Kansas, while no jobs will be lost in Montreal in conjunction with the transfer.

Renaud Gagne, Unifor Quebec director, a union leader stated: “After a few difficult years in which we have seen job cuts, the union is delighted that soon the recall list, which currently has about 100 members, will not have a single one anymore and that hiring will follow. It secures our jobs for future years, quality jobs, and create others. We are certainly enthusiastic.”
