Trump Abolishes the DACA Program and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is Not Happy

By now, most people are aware that President Donald Trump has officially made the decision to terminate the Obama-era immigration program known as DACA. And in response, Facebook (NASDAQ:$FB) CEO Mark Zuckerberg couldn’t help but express his disgust in the decision, urging Congress to pass legislation that gives the “dreamers” a safe and secure pathway to citizenship.

“This is a sad day for our country. The decision to end DACA is not just wrong. It is particularly cruel to offer young people the American Dream, encourage them to come out of the shadows and trust our government, and then punish them for it.”

Zuckerberg’s post on Facebook comes just hours after Trump told Congress to “get ready to do your job.” The Facebook CEO — who has been rumored to make a presidential run — took it into his own hands and criticized Trump’s decision to abolish the DACA program, which stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

It’s not a surprise that Zuckerberg has such strong feelings on the matter, as he has been involved in immigration reform for a number of years, and the CEO coordinated a letter from technology executives in support of the immigration policy on August 31.

For those who don’t know, Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General, announced Trump’s DACA decision at the Justice Department on Tuesday morning.
